- A colorized photo image of the north side of Government Square(the Esplanade) on Gallia Street. The gray stone building at left is the old Post Office at the corner of Gallia and Chillicothe Streets. It was completed in 1891, expanded in 1914, closed in 1936, and razed in 1956 for the construction of a five story Montgomery-Ward Department Store.
The flag is flying over the city building (Kricker Building) built by George Kricker in 1893. The Kricker Building held Portsmouth City Offices, a bank, grocery, jeweler, business college, and many other businesses - Creator
