Scanned page 142 from Henry A. Lorberg scrapbook containing a typed text account of the Beecher-Tilton Trial of 1880 in which Rev. Henry Ward Beecher (pastor of Plymouth Church in Brooklyn) was sued by Theo. Tilton (one of his members) for alienating the affections of his wife. Shortly after the trial, Mr. Beecher came to Portsmouth to lecture under the auspices of the local Lyceum at the Wilhelm Opera House and stayed at the Biggs where Mr. Tilton also happened to be staying on his way to Maysville.
Those involved included: Flint Kendall, Geo. Freshell; Jake Gist; Jim Hager.
