Description

Sepia tone group photo of 33 men at the Amarillo Air Force Base. Mechanic and engineer training during the war. Pictured is Class 12-5-C, 602 Headquarters. Photo has class information on front with "To Mother and Dad From Your Loving Son Harold" Back has names listed.

The first air base in Amarillo opened in 1942 to train mechanics and engineers and was closed in 1946, after World War II. In 1951, the Amarillo Air Force Base opened. Its name was changed to Amarillo Technical Training Center in 1961, and the base officially closed at the end of 1968.
