Bookmobile Rules
A valid Portsmouth Public Library card must be presented to check out any material (names are not in the computer). Children under the age of eighteen must have the signature of a custodial parent or legal guardian in order to obtain a library card. The parent/guardian will be responsible for the appropriateness of materials, and for payment of charges incurred with the card. Please report changes of address or lost cards promptly. One dollar will be charged for a replacement card.
- Schools are encouraged to make their own class scheduling arrangements for their bookmobile visit. Teachers are also encouraged to accompany younger children.
- Students should conduct themselves in an orderly fashion while visiting the Bookmobile.
- The number of books a student may borrow is ten (10) unless otherwise restricted by parent or teacher. High school students and adults may borrow up to 25 items, but the number on any specific subject may be restricted.
- Books must be paid for if lost or damaged, including writing or marking on or inside the book. Failure to return books will result in suspension of library privileges.
- Please check school calendars for days when the bookmobile is not visiting due to school closures.
- In case the Bookmobile is not running due to weather or mechanical problems, an announcement will be made on local radio stations. In addition, books will be due on the next scheduled Bookmobile date and any overdue fines on those items will be waived.
